Brazil's Neymar celebrates during the 2026 World Cup qualifier match between Brazil and Bolivia at the Olympic Stadium of Para in Belem, capital of the State of Para, Brazil, on Sept. 8, 2023.

17 things we loved this weekend: Neymar, Bielsa, Ronaldinho, Yamal…

The first international break of the season is often accompanied by a big collective groan, but this one actually treated us to plenty of wonderful moments from around the world of football.

England’s 1-1 draw with Ukraine won’t live long in the memory, but there were some brilliant goals scored elsewhere in Europe, while South America’s epic World Cup qualification cycle got underway.

Here are 17 of our favourite moments from a pretty good weekend of football in the end.

Neymar

Brazil’s all-time top goalscorer. Some player.

Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe is us watching any sport that’s not football.

Scott McTominay

Is Scotland’s dominance of international football bad for the game? Answers on a postcard…

Cristiano Ronaldo

This is nice.

Lamine Yamal

Sixteen years old. Terrifying.

Yves Bissouma

An assist Lionel Messi would’ve been proud of.

Uruguay

We’re so happy to have Marcelo Bielsa back in the dugout.

Ronaldinho

Still bringing us joy.

Aaron Lewis

What a hit son.

This goal

A ridiculous strike from the… *checks Wikipedia*… FC Balzers(?) midfielder.

John Terry

Get him in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, immediately.

Albania

Striker!

Halifax red card

Should’ve gone to Specsavers.

Crazy goalkeeper

Not even a yellow? Brilliant.

Costa Rican mascot race

All kinds of brilliant.

Uno

Genuinely funny.

Sidemen charity match

Well done to all involved.
