Bukayo Saka’s new Arsenal deal – & the 8 Premier League players that earn more
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has all but agreed a new contract worth £300,000 a week, according to reports.
Saka has been absolutely integral to Arsenal’s title push this season. The Hale End academy graduate is the only player in the Premier League to have notched double figures for both goals and assists
But Saka hasn’t signed a new deal since 2020, when he was still a teenager emerging on the fringes of Mikel Arteta’s side. At that point, he’d only scored one Premier League goal and was yet to make his England debut.
Fast forward three years and the 21-year-old developed into one of the most devastating forwards in the Premier League and is now a regular for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.
“He’s not the player that gets a hat-trick against a side bottom of the league or he’s not grabbing the seventh goal in a 7-0 win. At Arsenal, he’s getting the first goal, the equaliser or the winner. He’s getting assists at crucial moments,” former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson said of Saka after his star showing for England against Ukraine.
“He’s a big occasion player and there are not a lot of them around. There are players that will do a lot of things in games, but they won’t be in the most important part of the game. Saka does do that, however, on a weekly basis.”
His current contract expires in 2024, but according to insiders Arsenal have always been relaxed about keeping hold of their prize asset.
But he remains on those terms, meaning he’s currently earning less than peripheral squad players Eddie Nketiah and Kieran Tierney in the Arsenal squad, and isn’t even in the Premier League’s top 100 earners.
However, that’s all set to change. According to The Sun, everything has been agreed and Saka will soon put pen to paper on a deal set to more than quadruple his current salary, believed to be in the region of £70,000 per week.
It’s reported that Saka will sign a new deal worth £300,000 a week, which will make him Arsenal’s top earner and among the very best-paid players in England.
The deal will put him level on salary with Jack Grealish, who signed a lucrative contract at Manchester City after signing for a club-record £100million fee in the summer of 2021.
