Watch: Darwin Nunez’s attempted push has made us cry with laughter

Darwin Nunez enjoyed a rollercoaster performance during Liverpool’s League Cup defeat to Manchester City and clips of him attempting to push Ilkay Gundogan to the floor have left us crying with laughter.

Even though it has been a tough start for Nunez in English football since he joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer, he has still managed nine goals in 19 matches in all competitions.

But the Uruguay international missed three good chances on Thursday night as Liverpool exited the Carabao Cup.

“He is a rough diamond,” Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports after the game. “He will never had a quiet game, he will either score or will show a series of missed chances.

“He is not the most technical in terms of finishing. He tries to burst the net but there is definitely something to work with but you wouldn’t want to play against him with that pace.”

Though Nunez was signed to be the main centre-forward for Liverpool, Reds legend Carragher believes he could play as a winger in upcoming months.

A void has opened up on the left-side of the attacking three with Luis Diaz ruled out for several months with an injury.

Carragher said: “I think right now because of Diaz injury he played through the centre. I think when Liverpool get Roberto Firmino back he will go wide, but he will become that centre forward in the future.”

But arguably the most memorable moment of Nunez’s performance against City was his hilarious contribution to the mini brawl that broke out in the second half.

Midfielders Ilkay Gundogan and Fabinho engaged in some classic pushing and shoving as the Etihad crowd reached for their popcorn.

And Nunez attempted to stick up for his team-mate by shoving Gundogan back, only to miss the target in time-honoured fashion. We love him.
