Three England stars feature in the top 10 players with the most goals and assists in Europe this season

There’s an interesting mix of the usual suspects and some unexpected names when you take a look through the players with the most goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues – Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 – in the final standings of the 2023-24 season.

Stars from Inter, PSG, Bayern Munich and Manchester City make the top 10 list for goal contributions, alongside one or two names you might not expect to see. We’ve taken a closer look at the full list for goal contributions across the major European leagues as the season comes to a close.

Note: if two players are tied on goal contributions, we’ve ordered them by their ratio of goals and assists per minute.

10. Alexander Sorloth – 29 (23 goals, 6 assists)

Four goals in his second to last appearance against Real Madrid, of all teams, is the biggest piece of evidence you’ll find that it’s this Norwegian that is Europe’s most lethal goalscorer right now.

Sorloth has scored 17 La Liga goals for Villarreal in 2024 alone. That is ridiculous. He would’ve been a real contender for La Liga’s Pichichi top scorer award had he not been sidelined in his final outing of the season.

A massive shame he’ll be sat watching Euro 2024 at home this summer.

9. Lautaro Martinez – 30 (24 goals, 6 assists)

Inter will feel it was a massive missed opportunity to exit the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage, because there’s a strong argument that they were the best side across Europe’s major leagues this season – perfectly balanced, both their attack and defence was outrageously good as they blitzed all and sundry on their way to the Scudetto.

Their Argentinian World Cup winner up top has been one of the pillars of their excellent campaign, although his goals did dry up a little bit come spring once the title had been sealed.

8. Serhou Guirassy – 30 (28 goals, 2 assists)

The Guinea international’s contributions are heavily weighted towards finishing, having set up just two goals for his Stuttgart team-mates in the Bundesliga this season.

Who cares about that when your goalscoring return is that brilliant? Only Harry Kane scored more goals in Europe’s major leagues in 2023-24 than Guirassy, who was nothing short of superb for Stuttgart.

7. Lois Openda – 31 (24 goals, 7 assists)

Manchester United are thought to be interested in signing Openda this summer and it’s no wonder – the Belgium international has been sensational since joining Leipzig last summer and is already posting elite numbers.

Openda is Leipzig’s record signing but you imagine they’ll still make a large profit when they move him on. It’s just what they do. Between Openda and Benjamin Sesko, Leipzig are set to make a killing.

6. Artem Dovbyk – 32 (24 goals, 8 assists)

La Liga’s top scorer heads into Ukraine’s Euro 2024 campaign with real confidence, having sealed the Pichichi award on the final weekend with a hat-trick in Girona’s 7-0 mauling of Granada.

The striker is the first player outside the ‘big three’ clubs in Spain (Atletico, Real Madrid, Barcelona) to finish La Liga’s top scorer since Mallorca’s Dani Guiza all the way back in 2007-08.

5. Ollie Watkins – 32 (19 goals, 13 assists)

Watkins was nothing short of sensational in 2023-24, leading Aston Villa’s Champions League charge and placing himself firmly at the front of the queue to be Harry Kane’s back-up at Euro 2024.

One of the most consistent goalscorers in the Premier League, Watkins is also an astute provider of assists for his team-mates – nobody else on this list can match his total of 13.

4. Erling Haaland – 32 (27 goals, 5 assists)

The Norwegian came out on top of this chart last season by some distance – thanks way more to his goalscoring than his assisting – and it’s no surprise to see him in the mix once again in 2023-24.

Haaland is inevitable. Even after injuries and a relative goal drought, he still regularly produces masterclasses in clinical finishing (plus the odd unthinkable miss, to remind us he’s human).

3. Cole Palmer – 33 (22 goals, 11 assists)

Palmer had himself one of the great debut campaigns as Chelsea ended up finishing a respectable sixth place in the Premier League.

From the fringes at Manchester City to a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad, the 21-year-old was truly exceptional for Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues.

Gareth Southgate might struggle to find somewhere to fit him into England’s starting XI at Euro 2024 this summer but he’s a hell of a weapon to turn to off the bench.

2. Kylian Mbappe – 34 (26 goals, 7 assists)

Mbappe might have left PSG, but he’s once again proven his ruthless class over the past 12 months.

The 25-year-old is PSG’s all-time top goalscorer and he looks sharper than ever. Mbappe averaged a goal contribution every 63 minutes in his final Ligue 1 campaign.

And he might’ve been up there with the man in the top spot had Luis Enrique not started benching Mbappe as he looks to the immediate future without him.

The idea of him joining Real Madrid’s attack is nothing short of terrifying.

1. Harry Kane – 44 (36 goals, 8 assists)

Bayern Munich might have unthinkably finished third in the Bundesliga, but Kane can hold his head up high, having ended up as the Bundesliga’s top scorer by a street – with a first-ever European Golden Shoe in the bag.
