Can you name Newcastle’s XI from the 2-0 PL win at Chelsea in 2012?
Newcastle produced a brilliant 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on 2 May 2012 to help them finish above Chelsea in the 2011-12 Premier League season, but we want to know if you can name the XI that Alan Pardew set out for the match.
Beyond helping Newcastle to a historic fifth-place finish, the match is famous for one thing in particular; their stunning second goal that is still regarded as one of the best ever scored in the Premier League.
“This one was ridiculous. Just instinct really,” the goalscorer since said of the incredible finish, which bent impossibly beyond Petr Cech.
“I never knew it would fly like that, though. You hope, but this kind of goal can happen only one time in your career. You need luck on your side and the belief that you can score just to try from there.
“I’ve scored over 160 goals in my career, for teams in five countries, and this is the only one people ever talk about. This is my identity, this goal.”
But can you name Newcastle’s starting XI from that match? We’ve given you ten minutes to get it done, and the time from the office to beat is 02:01.
Once you’ve tried your hand at that, why not try to name Newcastle’s top 35 goalscorers of the PL era?
