Ranking every Premier League club by their net spend in January 2023

The January window didn’t disappoint as it was an eventful month to say the least with over £800million being spent by Premier League clubs.

It will come as no surprise to learn that Chelsea spent a large bulk of the overall sum, with additions such as Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez costing them a huge sum.

Chelsea signed a total of eight players in January who had an average age of just 20.6. It’s clear that their new vision is to invest into up and coming players from around Europe.

Arsenal also rank highly on the list despite not getting a deal done for Mudryk or Moises Caicedo. They instead strengthened with the additions of Leandro Trossard and Jorginho.

Newcastle and Liverpool each strengthened their forward positions, although they had slightly quieter transfer windows than some people had predicted.

Eddie Howe’s side splashed out on Anthony Gordon from Everton but were otherwise quiet in the market. The same can be said for Liverpool whose only addition was Cody Gakpo.

Earlier in the window, Klopp told reporters: “I don’t want to disappoint anybody but we signed an outstanding player like Cody Gakpo and the next thing you can read is, ‘Who next?’

“We cannot play like Monopoly. We never did. It is a big part of my philosophy, working full of faith and trust with the players we have and not constantly questioning them by telling them that we need another player in their position.”

Elsewhere in the table, Southampton and Bournemouth each boosted their survival chances with several additions throughout January.

Brighton and Everton were the only clubs to turn a profit in January as the sales of Trossard and Gordon brought in large sums. Everton tried to be active towards the end of the window, but ultimately failed to land any of their targets.
