10 outrageous stats that sum up how good history-making Leeds United have been in 2024

Leeds United have moved to the summit of the Championship table after maintaining their outrageously good form with a 2-0 victory over Millwall

In recent weeks, Daniel Farke’s men have moved ahead of Ipswich and Southampton and their relentless form has put the pressure on their promotion rivals. A place in the play-offs looks all but secure at this stage, but the club have their sights set on the top two – while the top spot looks eminently achievable, given the momentum behind them.

“First of all you’ve got to enjoy it a little bit because if you don’t enjoy such a moment then you’ll ask yourself one day why are you doing all this hard work?” Farke told reporters following the win over Millwall.

“So when there’s a time like right now you have to enjoy it a little bit, but also make sure we stay on it because it’s a tight race. It’s not important where you are after 38 games.

“I won’t fall into the trap and say right now we have the best momentum. Obviously we’re in perfect shape and have won many points.

“But it’s a tight race. The teams are more or less on the same base, just a few points are between them.

“I’m sure Leicester will win some points in their game in hand and then they have the best possible option.”

Here are 10 statistics that underline just how good Farke’s Leeds have been in recent months.

– Leeds have kicked off a calendar year in better form than any year in the club’s history.

– Only Arsenal (nine wins out of nine) have a better win ratio in the top four tiers of English football this calendar year. Leeds have won 12 and drawn one of their 13 Championship outings. Leeds’ aggregate Championship score in 2024 is 28-3.

– Farke’s men have kept 10 clean sheets and conceded just three goals in their 13 league outings in 2024. And they haven’t conceded a single Championship goal from open play this calendar year.

– Leeds are also the only team in the entire Football League that remain unbeaten at home this season. In the top four tiers of English football, it’s only Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester City that are yet to taste defeat on home soil in 2023-24.

– Leeds have the best underlying statistics in the Championship with an expected goals differential of +34.8xG. Their total xG is only second behind Leicester (65.7 to 67.5) but considerably ahead of any other side for xG against (30.9xG).

– With 82 points from 38 games, Leeds are averaging 2.15 points per game. That sees them projected to end the season on 98 points – a tally that has been enough for automatic promotion in every season in Championship history.

– Leeds are actually 11 points better off than they were at the same stage the last time they were in the Championship – under Marcelo Bielsa in 2019-20, when they ended up as Championship champions on 93 points, 10 clear of any other team.

– Prior to drawing against earlier this month, their run of nine successive league wins was the club’s best run of form in 92 years.

– Leeds’ forwards Daniel James, Crysensio Summerville, Joel Piroe, Georginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford, Wilfried Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony have notched a combined total of 59 goals and 35 assists this season. Rutter leads the Championship for assists with 15.

– Summerville has received 13 Man Of The Match WhoScored ratings in his 29 Championship starts this season. That’s the most of any player in the division. He also boasts WhoScored’s highest average rating (7.71) for any Championship player.

– Farke currently boasts the highest win percentage of any permanent Leeds manager in history – 61.9%.
