The 10 teams in Europe’s top five leagues with the most points-per-game
Some of Europe’s most exciting sides this season are putting up absurd points-per-game (PPG) numbers, with sides from Germany and Italy competing with the Premier League’s big guns in the charts.
Points-per-game might feel like an unnecessary stat on the surface, but it’s a brilliant indicator of exactly how ruthless a team is, even if your dad insists that it’s a load of rubbish. He’ll come around, don’t worry.
The top 10 makes for fascinating reading, with big teams galore, some of the most exciting sides to watch right now and a few surprise packages. Read on to find the list in full.
10. Stuttgart
Sneaking into the list is the Bundesliga’s true surprise package of the season, averaging 2.15 PPG after 26 games played, with 51 points on the board.
Stuttgart have quietly been phenomenal in the league this season, holding Bayer Leverkusen to a draw and managing wins against RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.
Striker Serhou Guirassy is firing them in for fun, boasting 22 Bundesliga goals at the time of writing, and the push for a Champions League spot is more on than ever.
Considering they finished 16th last season and only kept top-flight status by winning the relegation play-off, that’s not bad going.
9. Barcelona
It’s been a strange season for Barcelona, who have put together a rather poor defence of their 2022-23 La Liga crown, prompting Xavi to voluntarily vacate his post at the end of the current season.
However, since he announced that at the beginning of 2024, La Blaugrana have picked up somewhat.
A PPG of 2.21 isn’t a complete car crash, despite them currently sitting eight points behind league leaders Real Madrid, and they’re going strong in the Champions League. Confusing.
8. Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t been at their scintillating best yet this season since becoming treble winners, but nobody has been brave enough to say it because it feels inevitable that they’ll kick into gear for the final run-in and blitz their way to another title.
However, a PPG of 2.25 doesn’t make for enthralling reading, considering what we know they’re capable of.
Despite Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne now being back in action, City have dropped points against Tottenham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Chelsea this season.
They managed a draw away to Liverpool, however, and host Arsenal after the international break. It feels like such a game might just decide which way the league title goes this season.

7. Paris Saint-Germain
PSG are 12 points clear atop of Ligue 1 this season, but still only have 59 points after 26 games for a PPG of 2.27. Considering their star power compared to the rest of the teams in the division, it makes for disappointing reading.
Regardless, Kylian Mbappe looks set to bow out with yet another league title to his name. The real challenge, however, is trying to leave the club having won the Champions League.
=5. Liverpool
A draw at home to City might’ve felt disappointing at the time, but crucially, Liverpool didn’t lose. The fact they’re level on points with Arsenal after 28 games is a serious sign of their title credentials, given how good the Gunners have been this season.
A total of 2.29 points per game might not be the most enthralling number on the list, but when you’ve got a genuine three-way title race going down to the wire between three juggernauts, nobody’s bothered. Proper Premier League.
=5. Arsenal
Mikel Arteta’s side fell short last season, and while many predicted they would, things admittedly feel different this time around.
People have been quick to call them the best team in the Premier League this season, but the fact they’re able to look that good and keep pace with both City and Liverpool after wobbling last season is more impressive than their football on the pitch – which is bloody good, by the way.
The biggest test of their season awaits at the Etihad Stadium.

4. Bayern Munich
Bayern have been calamitous far too often for their liking this season and a PPG of 2.31 is poor by their standards, but even if they had been better, matching the Bundesliga leaders this season would’ve been an extremely tall order.
We’ll talk about them later, though. For Bayern, 60 points after 26 games represent an extremely disappointing league campaign, especially after a summer which saw them poach Harry Kane from Tottenham.
They’re still in with a shot in the Champions League, but their Bundesliga title defence has been poor and it now looks all but confirmed that they’ll lose their grasp of it for the first time since 2011-12.
3. Real Madrid
It’s not been pretty at times, but they won’t care. In what has felt like a transition season under Carlo Ancelotti, with no real replacement for Karim Benzema and several of the old guard on their last legs, Real Madrid’s 2.48 PPG looks set to land them La Liga once again.
Jude Bellingham has settled in tremendously quickly and carried them in the absence of Benzema, while injuries to other key players such as Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao has also made things difficult.
Barcelona haven’t put up much in the way of a proper defence, but Los Blancos will be extremely happy to recapture the title in a season that felt like a buffer until the heavy artillery arrives in the summer.
2. Inter
If you haven’t tuned into Serie A this season and watched Simone Inzaghi’s side at their best, you’re seriously missing out.
An impressive 2.62 points per game doesn’t do justice to the brilliant football Inter play, with the Nerazzurri looking like one of the most well-oiled teams in Europe on a near-weekly basis.
They sit 14 points clear of Milan in second with nine games to play, having blitzed the league this season. They’ve lost just once and have already scored 71 goals, in what will be one of the most enjoyable Scudetto wins in recent history.
1. Bayer Leverkusen
Come on, you knew it was coming. Seriously though, what Xabi Alonso has done in his first full season in charge at Leverkusen is breathtaking.
When he took over the club in October 2022, Leverkusen were sat dangerously close to the relegation zone. They’re now the most devastating team in Europe and have a ridiculous PPG of 2.69 to back up the claims.
They’re yet to lose this season and haven’t lost a game in all competitions in over 300 days as they blitz their way towards a first Bundesliga title in the club’s history. That’s quite a way to win your first.
